In-Office vs. At-Home, Over-the-Counter Teeth Whitening

There are so many toothpastes, gels, trays and other tooth-whitening products on the market, it can be overwhelming to decide which is best. The main benefit of these over-the-counter solutions is how inexpensive they are. However, what many people end up discovering is the price climbs pretty quickly when you have to keep buying the products over and over to get or maintain the results you want.

What to Expect During a Teeth Whitening Appointment

The procedure is simple:

  1. We cover your lips and gums.
  2. We apply prescription-strength gel to your teeth.
  3. Repeat two more times for a total of three 15-minute sessions.

No laser or light is needed to reduce sensitivity. A take home kit is included.

Teeth Whitening FAQs

Certain foods and drinks are prone to staining teeth, so it’s a good idea to either avoid them or be diligent about brushing your teeth immediately after consuming them. Some of those problem foods include coffee, tea, soda, wine, beets, blueberries, grape juice, cranberry juice, soy sauce and tomato sauce.

Drinking with a straw can help minimize stains as the liquid goes right past your front teeth.

As always, brush and floss twice daily and continue visiting us every six months for your routine cleaning and examination.

After the third 15-minute session with the light, you’re finished. Your teeth are whiter and you shouldn’t experience any pain. You might have a bit of sensitivity for 2-3 days after the procedure, but that’s normal. We’ll also suggest you avoid certain foods or beverages (like coffee or soda) for at least three days after the treatment.
